Simple Ways to Nourish Yourself with Nature's Magic

How to Make A Wish

Ever make a wish and have it come true?

Years ago I had a project in mind and needed natural feathers to complete the work. All I could find locally were brightly dyed feathers meant for kids crafts. I went to bed that night thinking about how much I wanted natural feathers but with no idea where I could find them.

When I opened my front door the next morning I discovered a pile of feathers. A perfectly round pile of soft brown to grey feathers, placed just a little to side of the doorway. At first I thought someone had left them there as a surprise for me, but I hadn't mentioned my wish to anyone.

I swear I looked up to see if some bird had somehow....um no, not possible. After a few minutes of stunned silence, I started to laugh. Crazy, grateful, amazed giggles just bubbled out of me as I stooped to gather up the feathers. I mean, what else can you do when a wish is granted in such a wondrous way?

Here is the Nature Spirit I made that same day. She has been with me for many years now and is slightly the worse for wear, but she always has a spot in my art studio as a reminder that wishes can come true.

So Why Did This Wish Come True?

These days practically everyone has seen the movie The Secret. And we all tried to make stuff happen using the ideas from the movie (or book), with varying degrees of success. This "manifestation" happened long before that book and movie were written.

A Natural Process.

I think those feathers appeared for a few reasons. I am pretty intense when I am making art, it kinda goes with the territory. I focus on an idea to the exclusion of everything else, much to the chagrin of my family.

Visualize.

The idea of visualization is not new to artists, it's part of the creative process.

I wanted natural feathers badly and I could see them in my minds eye, I just didn't know where I would find them.  I wasn't worried about it though, and I think that is key. It never crossed my mind that maybe I wouldn't find what I wanted. So there was nothing in the way. I just knew I would find feathers...somewhere, because I wanted them!

I Went To Sleep.

That's called letting it go...not obsessing, not continuously checking if the thing you want has arrived. Certainly not worrying about how to get it. Of course letting it go wasn't intentional. Total fluke. It's a lot easier to let go when it happens to be bedtime and you are tired.

The Recipe.

As far as I can tell, the recipe for allowing this gift to appear was:

1. one part focused visualization (with a good dose of excitement for it)

2. one part fearlessness or knowing you will have it.

3. one part letting it brew on it's own. Walk away, go to sleep, don't give it a further thought.

The simplicity of it is pretty gorgeous, don't you think? Maybe give it a try? I'd love to hear about your experiences.

I have a feeling that an enchanted cat played a role in the magic that day. I wonder what prompted the cat to go to my doorstep. Therein lies the magic.

Beautifully written Laura, and so true. I don't practice wishing and visualizing near enough.

Wishing has always manifested for me since I w
as a little girl. Your once upon a time illustrations are whimsical and inspiring.

I believe that you and yours have an uncanny ability to manifest your dreams and visualizations.
My dear friend Susie has that ability and I witness it almost each day with her life experiences.
OF COURSE you do, too. Connections!

Thanks Howard,
I hope I inspired you to make a wish or 2. I bet you will create something awesome.

Dear Susie,
You have more magic in your little finger than...anyone I know. I may just have to write a post about you.

Hi Karen,
